Excellent Early Season Conditions Allow Telluride Ski Resort To Open Significant Terrain

telluride

(TELLURIDE, Colo.) – Thanks to strong early season snow, Telluride will be opening some of its best terrain earlier than usual. On Saturday, December 5th, the Resort will open the full “loop” of Lifts 4, 5 and 6. The following weekend, on December 12th, the Resort will also open Lifts 7, 8 and 9 with expanded terrain. With more snow on the way, conditions have never been better to make the trip to Telluride before the holiday season.

As part of the expanded terrain, the famous Plunge trail will be open, as well as Coonskin and Telluride Trail, allowing easy ski-to-town access. The mountain operations team continues to prepare connecting trails and plans on additional roll-outs of terrain as we approach the holidays.

“This early season has been successful in terms of what we’ve been able to open already,” said Jeff Proteau, vice president of mountain operations. “Being able to open lifts 7, 8 and 9 is a win for us this early in the season, especially since people will be able to take advantage of skiing directly into town.”

Holiday Prelude

In addition to expanded terrain, the annual Holiday Prelude will help spread the spirit of the season. On Friday, December 11th and Saturday, December 12th, be transported to the North Pole via the free pedestrian Gondola and take in the holiday decorations and lights while visiting with Santa and his elves. Families can also enjoy the lights around Mountain Village as they enjoy a free train ride on the North Pole Express.

Other activities taking place during the Holiday Prelude will include professional ice skating performances, free sledding, a pajama breakfast with Santa and other family friendly events. This year, the Town of Mountain Village is also offering free parking in the Gondola Parking Garage, making it convenient and easy to get around the resort.

“Opening the resort is always an exciting time of year and the staff and community get excited as the Gondola has reopened, Allred’s opens its doors and the lifts start turning for the season,” said Matt Windt, vice president of sales and marketing at Telluride Ski Resort. “This year we’ve been blessed with amazing early season snow that combined with great events and activities leading up to the holidays. This is a perfect time to come to town before the holidays arrive.”
